Animal Assisted Intervention International (AAII) has four membership fields. In each field are two types: full members or associate members.
Full members have voting rights, can serve on the board and are entitled to use the logo.
1. Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) – open to organizations and individuals with formal education qualifications in a relevant discipline
2. Animal Assisted Education (AAE) – open to organizations and individuals with formal education qualifications in a relevant discipline
3. Animal Assisted Activities (AAA) – open to organizations that are active in the field of social and recreation based animal assisted activities and visitations or work alongside healthcare, social service or education providers with formal education in a relevant discipline
4. Animal Support (AS) – open to organisations that train dogs or animals to work in facilities or towork alongside healthcare, social service or education providers with formaleducation in a relevant discipline

1.1. Membership field – Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT)
Membership in the field Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) – open to organisations or individuals with formal education qualifications in a relevant discipline.

Full membership – criteria
• Completion of college level (bachelor, masters, doctorate, PhD or equivalent) coursework;
• Active license specific to a human healthcare practitioner or social service provision;
• Must have completed supervised, direct client contact in human related apprentice work or internship specific to BA, MA, Doc, PhD degree or equivalent;
• Recommend basic animal handling and welfare knowledge;
• Organizations must have a named person who meets the criteria and is effectively the holder of the membership.

Full membership – examples of titles
• Counselling
• Occupational therapist
• Physical therapist
• Speech and language pathologist
• Behaviour therapist
• Nurse practitioner
• Physician
• Psychologist, etc.

Associate membership – criteria
• Completion of college level (certificate, associate degree or equivalent) coursework;
• Active licensure specific to professional supervised positions in human healthcare or social service;
• Recommend basic animal handling and welfare knowledge;
• Organizations must have a named person who meets the criteria and is effectively the holder of the membership.
Associate membership – examples of titles
• Certified assistants in therapies, social work, nursing, etc.

1.2. Membership field – Animal Assisted Education (AAE)

Full membership – criteria

• Completion of formal Educational Support Program, along with certification and/or current letter of supervision from education supervisor;
• Must have completed supervised, direct student contact in human related apprentice work or internship;
• Organizations must have a named person who meets the criteria and is effectively the holder of the membership.

1.3. Membership field – Animal Assisted Activity (AAA)
Membership in the field Animal Assisted Activities (AAA) – open to organizations that are active in the field of social and recreation based animal assisted activities and visitations or work alongside healthcare, social service or education providers with formal education in a relevant discipline.
Full membership – Criteria
• Organizations should be officially registered;
• Handlers of the organization must have working experience in handling animals using positive reinforcement techniques, and direct contact with the specific animal they will be handling;
• Organizations must have a named person who is effectively the holder of the membership.

Associate membership – Criteria
• Organizations that are planning to be active in the field of social and recreation based animal assisted activities and visitations or work alongside healthcare, social service or education providers with formal education in a relevant discipline
• Organizations must have a named person who is effectively the holder of the membership.

1.4. Membership Field – Animal Support (AS)
Full membership in the category Animal Support (AS) open to organisations that train dogs or animals to work in facilities or to work alongside healthcare, social service or education providers with formal education in a relevant discipline.
Full membership – criteria
• Organizations in this category train animals to work alongside healthcare, social service, religious affiliations, or educational professionals;
• Eligibility includes completion of basic animal training education for each support person regarding the population they will be working with or training for;
• Must have animal training experience using positive reinforcement techniques;
• Organizations must have a named person who meets the criteria and is effectively the holder of the membership.

Full membership – examples of titles
• ADI/ADEu member organizations that train dogs for therapy/Education. Ex: Bocalan Confiar- Master AAT, AAT Technician.
Associate membership in the category Animal Support (AS) is open to organisations that are planning to train animals to work alongside healthcare, social service, religious affiliations, or educational profssionals.
